For a neat, clean cut when slicing pies an cakes, nothing could be simpler. Just dip the blade of your knife into hot water for a few seconds before making your cut and it is guaranteed to come out free of icing, garnishes or other tempting delights. Repeat before each subsequent cut, wiping off the blade as required before dipping it again in hot water.
